I have been playing the flute for over twenty years, and it is an integral part of my life and creation processes. The experience of caring for and repairing the flute I had played for over a decade led me to view it as an object that transcends materiality, as a living, breathing body. The flute, once a means of creation, became the subject of creation, an artistic medium and a tool for inquiry. Through its disassembly and reassembly, both physically and digitally, I delve into its anatomical structure and organs.
I create sculptural and musical compositions to convey processes of change, separation, and the redefinition of identity through an external element. Through this relationship with the instrument, I explore the moment when something once close and intimate shifts, demanding confrontation with a new path of searching. This is a quiet journey that begins within and seeks to lead inward still, into an attempt at creating a renewed identity out of fracture. Repairing the material fracture allowed me to become aware of the connection between my body and the body of the instrument, a connection that fosters mental and personal growth in the world.
